A DIGITAL NATION: LIFE ON THE VIRTUAL FRONTIER

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

A Digital Nation:
Life On The Virtual frontier

February 2, 2010 marks the debut of an exciting Frontline documentary on PBS – the culmination of yearlong support by the Verizon Foundation. The documentary examines the magnitude and speed with which digital media has permeated our culture, and takes an in-depth look at the implications.

Based on a mosaic of over a hundred video testimonials, the documentary pays particular attention to how digital media can be used to unlock potential in education and also the perils when these tools are used in warfare.

Classes of the Future:
In a highly illuminating conversation, Secretary of education, Arne Duncan volunteers that education “not about just sitting in class, and listening to a teacher, it’s about demonstrating an ability to master a set of skills.” He goes on further point to computers and cell phones as alternative education/knowledge delivery devices.
